Body mass index (BMI) is used in planning the surgical treatment of obesity. The normal upper limit of BMI is 25. 25-30 is classified as overweight, 30-35 as type 1 obese, 35-40 as type 2 obese, and over 40 as morbidly obese.

If you have failed to diet at least 2 times before and;

-If BMI is >40, you can have bariatric surgery 

- If your BMI is 35-40 and you have obesity-related co-morbidities, you can have obesity surgery.

-In recent years, obesity surgery can be performed in people with a BMI of 30-35, if obesity has been present for 3 years and insulin resistance has started.
