Stomach botox is the process of injecting an extract consisting of a substance (botulinum toxin) secreted by a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum into the stomach wall. Botulinum toxin (botox) temporarily paralyzes the injected muscles (3-6 months). It has different uses in medicine. It is used in plastic surgery, especially for wrinkles due to aging in the face area, as well as for the treatment of fissure (crack) disease in the anal region.  ,

Stomach botox is applied by endoscopy. After confirming that there is no other problem in the stomach and duodenum, botox is injected into the stomach wall approximately 12-16 times at different points.

Botox is thought to delay gastric emptying by disrupting the work of the stomach muscles. In this way, it increases the saturation time and makes dieting easier. The duration of action is 3-6 months.

Although its effectiveness has not been scientifically proven, the number of patients with very good results is not small at all. The decisive factor here is the patient's compliance with the rules after the procedure. It can be said that successful patients lost 10-15% of their total body weight on average in about 2 months.

Stomach botox is by no means an alternative to surgery. It can be applied as an alternative in patients who are not suitable for surgery.

No serious complications were observed in large series with gastric botox. Very rarely, there are possible complications such as having to remove the stomach due to the deterioration of gastric blood supply and the development of intra-abdominal infection, which have been reported as individual case reports.

After the stomach botox procedure, the patient goes home the same day, and after a liquid diet of about 10 days, he switches to his normal diet. The patient should meticulously follow his diet during the period when botox is active.
